Outstanding Dietitian
of the Year Award (ODY)
Lyndi Buckingham-Schutt, PhD, RDN, LD
Lyndi received both her Dietetics degree and her PhD in Interdisciplinary Nutritional Science from ISU.
Her colleagues relay that Lyndi has many notable leadership and service accomplishments that demonstrate her commitment to and passion for nutrition security and equity within the field of nutrition and dietetics.
In her role at ISU as Asst. Professor of Community Nutrition and Health, and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach State Specialist in Nutrition and Wellness, her leadership is shaping the nutrition, health, and wellness programming available to all Iowans, and her research and expertise in policy, systems and environmental change is having an impact on health and wellbeing of Iowa communities.
Lyndi has received several grants, published journal articles and other publications, led several research projects and has given numerous presentations, including at FNCE. She serves on the board of 2 non-profit organizations and is on the Iowa Food System Coalitions steering committee to ensure representation from our profession.
Lyndi has a passion for policy, having served in several leadership roles in both AND and IAND, including chair for the Academy (AND) Legislative and Public Policy Committee where she provided public policy and advocacy training, resources and support for dietitians around the country.
To quote one of her letters of support, “Lyndi is a proven leader locally and nationally already in the profession, and I know her impact will only continue to expand in the years to come. We are fortunate to have her as an Iowa dietitian, and someone who is advocating for our patients, clients, communities, and even our profession, in all the incredible work that she does.”
ODY Award Purpose: To recognize the commitment to excellence made by an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the profession.
