MEDALLION AWARD
Anne Oldham, MS, RD, LD
Anne Oldham, MS, RD, LD was recognized by the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at their annual meeting in Ames on November 6, 2023 as the 2023 Medallion Award winner. This award recognizes a member of the Iowa Academy who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and who has made outstanding contributions to the dietetic profession.
Anne received her BS in Dietetics and MS in Nutrition from Iowa State University. She has worked with undergraduate dietetics students in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) since 2000, first as an academic advisor and since 2006 as Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at Iowa State University.
Anne has been so impactful within our profession, it is hard to summarize all of her work through the years, but this quote from a colleague of Anne’s really says it best:
“The impact that Anne has had in her roles over the past 20+ years on the dietetics profession, as well as in the lives of students, is incredible. During this time, Anne has advised about 50 new undergraduate students majoring in dietetics each year, equating to over a thousand students who have been directly impacted by Anne. With the important role Anne plays in student recruitment and career advising, many of these students may likely be dietitians now, or are studying to become a dietitian, because of Anne. I have often heard students share the sentiment of feeling so much better after having met with Anne for planning courses for the next semester, making decisions about what to do after graduation, reviewing personal statements and resumes for dietetic internship and graduate program applications, or when sharing personal concerns that make school and life in general more difficult. With her kindness, compassion, empathy, and positivity, Anne is someone students trust and turn to as a mentor during their undergraduate careers (and sometimes beyond) when they need guidance and support.”
Medallion Award Purpose: To recognize a member of the Iowa Academy who has demonstrated leadership above and beyond job requirements in either the Iowa Academy or place of employment and has made outstanding contributions to the dietetic profession.
