Actions taken last week at the federal and state level continue to expand access to MNT and other services provided by RDNs. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act expands on previously relaxed telehealth rules for Medicare providers by allowing telehealth services to Medicare Part B beneficiaries to include telephone-only, allowing all FQHCs and RHCs to serve as distant sites, and increasing payments to RDNs and others by two percent by temporarily suspending sequestration. At the state level, CMS has now approved 34 state Medicaid waiver requests. These approvals give states a range of flexibilities including the ability to enroll out-of-state or new providers more quickly.
