This can be achieved through collaboration with other healthcare professionals at conferences and meetings via presentations and networking, continued publications of the Simplified Diet Manual, and working towards public policy and RD reimbursement. As President Elect, I will work closely with the President to understand my responsibilities and assist in any way that I can so that I can eventually assume responsibilities and be a mentor to the next President Elect.

Your goals and vision for the Iowa Academy: Meeting the goals the Iowa Academy set up in its strategic plan are vital to the mission and vision of our organization. As the meeting chair elect, I would work to continue to provide opportunities and educational resources to students, interns, and members. Planning sessions, an exhibit, networking opportunities and a poster session at the annual meeting that include medical nutrition therapy, education, food service and community work are important to creating an educational and cohesive meeting for all. Collaborating with other health care professionals and groups to provide research-based nutrition information sessions would allow us to continue to fulfill our vision to optimize the health of Iowans through food and nutrition while showcasing we are the food and nutrition leaders in our communities.

Your goals and vision for the Iowa Academy: As part of the Iowa State Dietetic Internship Program, we are currently in the process of transitioning to the Future Education Model (FEM). Preceptors play a primary role in the experiential learning for students in our current model and will continue to serve as a primary role as we transition to the FEM. My goal as CPI-Elect will be to draw attention to the continued need for preceptors into the future, as well as to gather any feedback about the challenges of serving as a preceptor. I am looking forward to “getting my feet wet” in the Iowa Academy!

Nominating Committee Ann Parker MHS, RD, LD Present Position and Title: ISU Extension and Outreach Nutrition and Wellness Specialist, IAND Liaison to ISU Extension and Outreach, IAND Media Spokesperson Education: Master of Health Science Degree, Western Carolina University, graduated 2015 Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Minor in Psychology, Iowa State University, graduated 2014 Professional Activities:

  • I have been active as secretary/treasurer for Central Iowa District Dietetic Association (CIDDA) from June 2018 to present.

  • I contribute to social media outreach and blog posts through IAND Media Spokesperson role January 2019 to present.

  • In addition, I have volunteered in 2018 and 2019 IAND annual meeting planning.

  • I currently represent my work organization as a liaison to IAND.

Your goals and vision for the Iowa Academy: I would love to boost membership and active involvement within the Iowa Academy! Unfortunately, I was not very active within IAND in my first couple of years as a dietitian. Since becoming active in multiple roles, I have grown professionally and hope that other dietitians have this opportunity and experience. The more that IAND can engage dietitians from all over the state and at every level/area of practice, the stronger we will be as an organization of professionals. I would love to serve as a nominating committee member so that I can help recruit dietitians into IAND membership/involvement.
