The Department of Human Sciences Extension and Outreach with Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Extension Program Specialist II for the EFNEP/SNAP-Ed Unit. We are seeking to fill two positions, one that would cover the EFNEP program staff in Black Hawk County and the SNAP-Ed program staff in Floyd and Dubuque counties and a second position that would cover the EFNEP program staff in Woodbury County and the SNAP-Ed program staff in Buena Vista county.

The Extension Program Specialist II – EFNEP/SNAP-Ed Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, training, and supervision of the EFNEP program staff as well as the SNAP-Ed program staff. In addition to supervision, this staff member will oversee all data collection, entry and reporting, coordinate county partnerships and assist staff with community outreach, engage in monthly conferences with staff to discuss performance, goals, time management, training and record-keeping, strategize for staff and unit performance improvement, oversee hiring and training for staff and serve on county, regional and state committees as required. Staff will provide nutrition and food resource management programming to income-eligible adults in select counties. The staff member will spend the majority of the time on supervision duties with direct education programming representing a smaller share of the position. In addition, this staff member will be expected to attend at least one county Extension Council meeting per year for each county where their supervisees work.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional problem solving skills, strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Supervisory and coaching skills, as well as networking and collaboration skills are beneficial to this position to step into a leadership role when needed. Basic nutrition education knowledge, adult education knowledge and skills, independent judgment, initiative, and exceptional ability to coordinate a variety of activities will also be needed to be successful in this role.


Required: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree and related experience. Preferred: Experience supervising paraprofessional staff. Experience with federally funded nutrition education programs. Experience providing education to adults. Valid US Driver's license.
