All About the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY) Award!

Do you know a dietitian in your community or district that you feel should be recognized for their leadership and involvement in The Academy? The Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY) award is presented to 12 individuals each year, one for each district. The purpose of this award is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietetic professionals in the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in The Academy.

RYDY Selection Criteria:

  • The individual has an active membership in The Academy and Iowa Academy.

  • The individual is 35 years old or younger (as of March 1, 2020).

  • They are a Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, or a Dietetic Technician, Registered.

  • They actively participate in The Academy, Iowa Academy, and/or District Dietetic Association.

  • They have not been previously selective for this award.

  • They demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimum health and nutrition status of the population.

  • They demonstrate leadership in The Academy, Iowa Academy, and/or District Dietetic Association activities or employment.


  • May be submitted by individual Iowa Academy members or District Dietetic Associations.

  • Self-nominations are also accepted.

  • The Awards Nomination Form can be completed online or you can download a copy. These can be found here:

  • Nominations are due by February 7, 2020.

  • Applications will be sent to the nominee and all application materials are due by March 5, 2020.
