ACTION ALERT: Senate Study Bill 3090

Iowa Academy Members,

In Iowa, we have always been grateful to be governed by a licensure board that protects our profession and the work we do. As many of you already know, Senate Study Bill 3090, was introduced this last Tuesday, January 28, that would eliminate the board of dietetics and license requirements for dietitians. The bill passed the subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, February 4.

The Iowa Academy is actively working with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to build a strategy to fight the bill. At this time, the Academy is helping guide Iowa through this process. Furthermore, the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board approved a motion to hire a lobbyist to represent our members at the Iowa Capital. The Public Policy team is working through the hiring process with the goal to hire a firm before the end of next week.

The bill is moving into the full State Government Committee and we believe it could move fast. For now, we ask that Iowa Academy members living in the district of the Senate State Government Committee to contact them and ask them not to support SSB 3090.

The following Senators are on the SSB 3090 Senate State Government Committee Members:

Once we have new information or action to take, we will share it with all of you. Thank you all for the passion you demonstrate for our profession.
