The Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Awards Committee is excited to highlight the 2020 Student Scholarship winners, Alyssa Dougherty, Lauren Geistkemper, and Gretchen Henningsen.

Alyssa graduated from Iowa State University last spring with a dual degree in Dietetics and Global Resource Systems. She is currently enrolled in a Coordinated Master’s Program in Public Health Nutrition and Dietetic Internship Program at the University of Minnesota. Alyssa is passionate about fighting global malnutrition and has been involved in several international nutrition and public health experiences. In the future Alyssa hopes to lead nutrition intervention programs to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
Lauren graduated from Iowa State University last spring with a degree in Dietetics. She is currently enrolled in the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay Dietetic Internship Program. Lauren discovered her passion for working with older adults through experiences with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, including a gerontology internship where she assisted with qualitative research of the Meals on Wheels program and creating a newsletter series for the statewide Stay Independent: A Healthy Aging Series program. Lauren plans to continue her work with older adults after completion of her internship.
Gretchen is pursuing her PhD in Nutritional Science and Sustainable Agriculture and is currently completing her Dietetic Internship through Iowa State University. While completing her undergraduate degrees in Dietetics and Nutritional Science, Gretchen served as President of both the College of Human Sciences Student Council and the ISU Student Dietetic Association. Upon graduation of her internship and PhD, Gretchen ultimately would like to become an instructor who helps educate future dietitians.
