The Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Awards Committee is excited to highlight the 2020 Outstanding Dietetic Student Award winner, Alyssa Dougherty!
Purpose: To recognize the emerging leadership and achievement of students in ACEND- accredited dietetics education programs and to encourage their participation in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Number of possible awards: 2 (1 for each type of program in the state - DPD and DI)
Criteria for Selection:
Active membership in The Academy and Iowa Academy. Students must be members by January 1st of the year in which they would receive the award.
Student enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program (Dietetic Internship Didactic Program in Dietetics).
Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor.
Demonstrated leadership and professional potential; e.g., honors, student dietetic association activities, community service activities, etc.
Nominations may be submitted by program faculty or preceptors.
Alyssa graduated from Iowa State University last spring with a dual degree in Dietetics and Global Resource Systems. She is currently enrolled in a Coordinated Master’s Program in Public Health Nutrition and Dietetic Internship Program at the University of Minnesota. Alyssa is passionate about fighting global malnutrition and has been involved in several international nutrition and public health experiences. In the future Alyssa hopes to lead nutrition intervention programs to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
