Message from the Chair . . .
Anne Sposato

The Board and Council had a productive meeting with Sue Hall in determining our Strategic Plan for next the three years.  The Board and Council decided our goals would be:

  1. Membership Involvement.  – Increasing Membership involvement in ICD-HCF.
  2. Knowledge Sharing – Transfer and share cutting-edge knowledge among our members.
  3. Promote the consulting dietitian professional to increase the population of qualified consulting dietitians.
  4. Nutrition Care Process – Learning to how to document using the Nutrition Care Process.

The Board and Council had a tele-conference on 15 November to discuss how to implement these goals.  We agreed work on the following actions:

  1. Prioritize the strategies within their goal.  What do we do first?
  2. What should be focus on in the next year?
  3. Who will complete these actions?
  4. What resources are needed to complete the action?
  5. What is the timeframe fro carrying out the action?

To Increase Membership Involvement.

  1. A brochure was developed.  A rough draft was emailed to all Board and Council for comments to make it more professional in terms of flow, wording, and pictures.  This brochure will be used to recruit new and lapsed members.
  2. After the Spring Meeting, attempts will be made to contact members who have not paid their membership.  We will give the member a chance to pay their membership before it is considered lapsed.
  3. A representative from the Board and Council will contact dietitians who would be interested in joining ICD-HCF.
  4. A list from DIA of all the nursing homes, and skilled nursing facilities was gathered in the state of Iowa.  The list was shared among Board and Council members, and it was cut and paste with who was working where.  The list was compared to our current members of ICD-HCF members.   Dietitians who are not members of ICD-HCF are identified; we will invite them to join.

Knowledge Sharing

  1. Create a speaker’s bureau and promote it through the website.
  2. Create listserv, for ICD-HCF members only were ICD-HCF members could go to contact one another with questions that arise in their scope of practice.
  3. Doing email blast as a method of providing members with current information from ICD-HCF.
  4. Create a power point presentation for dietitians to learn how to use the newest technology.
  5. Update our lending libraries.

Promote the consulting dietitian profession to increase the population of qualified dietitian.

  1. Promote our profession to internship directors.
  2. Use the website as a recruiting tool.
  3. Create liaisons to Iowa State University and the University of Iowa to advocate for curriculum changes, promote knowledge transfer, serve as guest speakers and recruit students to the profession.
  4. Partner with other organizations to promote the profession, i.e., Department of Elder Affairs and Iowa Healthcare.

Nutrition Care Process

  1. Bring in experts to conduct a half-day workshop at the annual meeting or separate workshop.
  2. Provide web-based instruction on the process.
  3. Train one person in each district, so they can go back and help their district.  Set-up a power point presentation that can be shared.
