My Goals and Vision for IDA:

My personal vision for IDA stems around continuing and building off of the amazing efforts that our past and current leaders have created.  Leading the Future of Dietetics, the mission of the Iowa Dietetic Association, should be and will be in the forefront of all projects and efforts that would ensue if I am lucky enough to receive the position of President-elect.  Strategic goals have already been set for IDA which include four strong and important words that would be part of my guidance as President-elect and eventually President of IDA.  These four words are membership, leadership, engagement, and growth.  IDA membership is the backbone of the organization and without active and motivated nutrition experts, IDA wouldn’t exist.  My goal would be to continue these efforts and focus on bringing new members and past members to IDA.  This would also include recruiting students to be a part of this exciting organization.  Leadership is a quality that can serve an IDA member not just in IDA activities but in life.  Alan Keith of Genetech is quoted in stating that “Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.”  There are many leaders in IDA who have given me this opportunity and I would like to be able to do the same for others.  Engagement comes from providing members with a definite purpose and getting their attention to be involved.  IDA members must be engaged in activities that involve topics such as public policy.  I have been able to serve as the State Public Policy Representative since 2006 allowing me to see how public policy directly impacts IDA members and any of the services we are allowed to provide.  Without engagement and action we as an organization and a profession could potentially no longer exist.  We must continue these efforts so legislators and policy makers think of IDA members first when it comes to nutrition and health.  Finally, growth must be the focus of IDA as it would be with any organization.  Growth of IDA comes from members and sound financial practices.  Iowa and the nation have been facing difficult economic times and we have all gained a better understanding of the importance of budgeting and revenue.  IDA must continue the sound practices that are already in place and continue our focus on growth and opportunity.

I would like to have the honor of serving as President-elect of IDA.  If anyone would like to get to know me further please feel free to email me at langejill@hotmail.com so we can discuss the future of IDA.
